The Accidental Invention of Sticky Notes 🟨
Morning post-it-notes!
You know these:
Sticky notes? or Post-it-notes? whatever they’re called.
What genius came up with em??
Well, the year was 1968.
We have this scientist guy named Dr. Spencer Silver.
He worked for the company 3M and was researching something called adhesives.
What's an adhesive?
Basically just a fancy word for a glue.
Anyway, he was tasked with developing stronger and more powerful adhesives.
But one day he accidentally developed the exact OPPOSITE of that.
Look, it's sticky…
But it can also be removed easily!
Spencer would constantly rave to his friends about this new and amazing adhesive he created…
But they just couldn't see the use.
He had found a solution to a problem that didn't exist…
But then in 1974 the problem arose!
This other scientist guy called Arthur Fry was having a problem with his bookmarks.
They kept… slipping out!
So long story short the two came together and created this:
A little piece of paper that can stick to surfaces…
And be removed!
And stuck again!
And removed again!
AKA The sticky note!
Or, how they called it, the Post-it-note!
Although originally it was just designed as a book mark, it was soon figured out they make great note taking and messaging tools.
So they started selling these sticky notes to the public…
And the rest is history!
