Morning Jellyfish!

See this jellyfish guy right here?

He is technically… IMMORTAL!

But how?

Well, imagine you’re a little baby jellyfish egg,

Who’s just popped out their mom…

But then…

You start transforming…

Tf?

And you attach yourself to the sea floor…

But then you start transforming again!

Into this weird wiggly thing called a polyp.

And finally, look…

It starts pumping out little baby jellyfish!

Aww…

Aaaaand then… they die.

Now, enter the Turritopsis Dohrnii.

AKA the immortal jellyfish…

What's special about them?

Well, they do the whole egg, polyp thing, just like normal jellyfish.

But when they get hurt or can't find enough food, they literally REVERSE THEIR LIFECYCLE!

They start by transforming into a blob-like structure called a cyst.

Which then transforms BACK into a polyp!

And…

The jellyfish is reborn!

Pretty cool right?

Oh, and scientists think they can do this infinitely…

Making them technically immortal!!

Unless… they’re killed by something.
