The Origin of Airbnb 🏡

Morning founders!

This box of Obama cereal:

Made Airbnb a 100 billion dollar company!!

How?

Well, it's a crazy story…

The year was 2008.

And Obama’s speaking at the Democratic National Convention.

And these 2 guys:

Joe Gebbia and Brian Chesky are trying to sell rooms to some of the 80 thousand people coming to see Obama speak.

They called em... Airbnbs!

Buuuuut… there’s a problem.

But don’t worry, they’ve got a backup plan.

Ya, they decided to sell politically themed cereal boxes!

Including Obama-o’s and Cap’n McCain’s.

And… it actually works!

The cereal went viral, and they were able to sell a thousand boxes in less than 24 hours for 40 bucks a pop!

Netting them 30 thousand dollars in profit!

When the cofounders pitched their airbnb idea to their first potential investor, Paul Graham

He was like:

Butttttt…..

And Airbnb was born!
