How Do Muscles Grow? 💪

3 min read

Morning muscles!

So, you wanna get swole?

It's easy!

Just eat right.

Lift a couple weights…

And tada, now you’re an absolute BEEFCAKE!!!

But wait…

What actually is it that makes muscles grow?

So, say you're at the gym, trying to do, I don’t know, a bicep curl or something…

Now, when you try to lift up,

Your brain sends a signal to the motor neurons in your arm making the few muscles you do have to expand and contract, like so:

But there’s a problem…

Cause while this is all happening, tiny little microscopic tears begin to develop in your muscles.

But don't worry, that's kind of a good thing!

Because in response these injured muscle cells release a call-for-help molecule called cytokines.

These cytokines then scream at the top of their lungs to alert the body's maintenance and defence team (the immune system) to the problem.

Then the immune system comes up, and starts repairing those tiny tears…

This is where the muscle building happens!

The more tears = more repairing

And more repairing = BIGGER MUSCLES!!!

So then, if you keep the cycle going, of damage and repair (assuming proper nutrition, hormones etc).

You too can get ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE!!
